D&M Research is an independent full-service market research agency in Sydney with a small, close-knit team. Managers and employees worked together to come up with a number of values to set the tone for the company’s culture, and identify what the company, as a whole, cares about. As an employee myself, I suggested that these values be placed in a prominent location, namely on a blank meeting room wall. Not only would the team be reminded of its values every day, they would also signal to clients and other visitors that we are a healthy and productive workplace.
Using the colour palette I developed for the company’s brand identity, I gave each of the nine values a unique typographic treatment. Some contain visual metaphors to reinforce the message of the respective value. For example, a tick (check mark) can be seen in the design for the “getting it right” value, while upward-pointing arrows can be seen in the design for the “growth” value. The overall design exhibits a mix of handwritten typefaces to give it the appearance of custom lettering. It’s warm and quirky, reflecting the personalities of the company’s team members. As we like to say, “we do serious work but have fun doing it”.
